Teaching Overview

Undergraduate Medical Education

During my first year as a medical education fellow, I served as acting assistant clerkship director to the core and advanced EM clerkships. In this role, I took part in didactic instruction, clinical supervision, and assessment of all medical students that rotated through the department. As I transitioned out of this role, I have continued to be engaged in several aspects of the advanced EM clerkship including didactic instruction, assessment, and program evaluation. For the last two years I have served as the faculty mentor for the Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) and advised, mentored, and coordinated events for medical students with an interest in EM. In the upcoming Winter and Spring quarters, I will serve as course instructor for SOMGEN219A/219B, “Introduction to Medical Education.”

Graduate Medical Education

Approximately half of my clinical shifts involve direct supervision and instruction of EM and off-service residents. I am currently acting assistant program director, taking part in administration of the residency program including program evaluation, didactic instruction, and recruitment of future residents. For the past two years I have served on the clinical competency committee and aided in the assessment of the program’s 60 residents.

Undergraduate Courses

For the past several years I have served as a guest lecturer and instructor for EMED123N, a freshman introductory seminar course entitled “Does Social Media Make Better Physicians.”

Quotes

"Great teacher who facilitated a welcoming learning environment on shift. I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Preiksaitis in the ED, and he really encouraged me to do it all (which I loved!). From calling consults, to working up complicated patients, to managing a opioid seeking patient, Dr. Preiksaitis encouraged me to take a deep dive right into EM. Also offered concrete feedback on assessment and plans, which I appreciated. Really loved working with Dr. Preiksaitis!"

"Excellent balance of teaching/guidance + giving students autonomy"

"Excellent example as a clinician with great learning points."

"Nice to work with, great teaching, models excellent patient care."
